[News] Notch vs Yogscast [MineCon] 7

Woke up this morning to see the chaos going on about some events at MineCon. If you haven’t heard anything let me fill you in.

What was everyone’s first guess? Unfortunately it was the Yogscast. Yes their highlight reel had cursing in it from previously recorded videos, but surely Mojang knew of this. They typically do a screening at these kinds of things to make sure everything follows the guidelines, right?

WARNING: There might be a drop or two of the F-bomb ahead.

So it’s been confirmed, the Yogscast are the culprits. Notch hasn’t released any details yet, so our best bet is waiting on an actual response from Simon and/or Lewis. We saw it coming though, the only real possibilities were the Yogscast or Deadmou5 and seeing as how they weren’t mentioned when Notch was thanking people and were unfollowed on twitter…

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened.

Look at Lomadia’s (Hannah’s) post in response:

“I find the words ‘work with’ to be very interesting in this – you will see why when Lewis gets home and makes his v-log of Minecon.

He used masturbation jokes in our videos, but then criticises us for using old footage with swearing in, when we have limited resources to edit the footage in Vegas, and also neither Mojang nor IGN gave us any guidelines as to what we were and weren’t allowed to do – the people in the panel and on the livestream chose to come and see us – so you’d think they’d know swearing is likely.

We did about six hours of signings and photos in general – no kid or parent complained to us about swearing.

I won’t say more as Lewis’ v-log will expose everything in wonderfully high definitioned rage, so give us a few days to get our thoughts in order. ”

edit:It appears she has edited out a chunk of it leaving only the first line

So now we have something. According to Hannah (with the Yogscast) there weren’t any guidelines set up in advance. If anyone is to blame its the people who planned this event and invited the duo known to be a bit raunchy. Sure, knowing kids would be there it was a poor choice to have swearing included in any part of your panel, but this public calling out on twitter is really immature and unprofessional. You could have settled this over Quake or not have mentioned it at all. Sure the parents may have been upset, but where were they when their kids were watching the Yogscast on YouTube?

I’m going to end this post with Totalbiscuit’s response. When we get any more information we will be sure to post it up.
