Not Your Average Treasure Hunter – Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

I’ve spent most of my life as a gamer. As far back as I can remember, I can remember a controller in my hands. It’s no secret that each and every gamer has their own tastes. Everyone has a feeling for what they like and what they won’t like. It’s what helps to fuel the industry.  It keeps certain genres above others in sales.  It’s what creates iconic characters and franchises. Every once in a while you find a game so good that it can be enjoyed by any gamer. but those are rare and far between. When you do find one of those games, they become a treasure.

I admit that i took a while to give into the hype surrounding Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I looked at it as another Tomb Raider, and I was never very fond of the Tomb Raider games. As I heard more and more about Uncharted, I grew to want it more and more. Eventually the want for the game turned into a need. I rushed out and purchased it, hoping that it would do justice to the hype it had been receiving. I can admit, that I am pleased with my purchase.

Rage all you want, it wont change RAGE

It’s no surprise to anyone that knows me personally that id Software releases have wasted more hours of my life than any FPS developer in the world, and RAGE was looking to be no different. I was eagerly waiting in my basement cave for my PC copy to install release day. Clutching my keyboard waiting for the moment I’d see the menu of the new long awaited shooter from the grandfather of FPS games as we know it. Minutes change into hours as my Steam account download went on and on, and I realized this game was a whopping 21GB and was a sure warning sign of things to come. never asked for this, and I sure as hell didn’t bring enough Cheetos and Mtn Dew Game Fuel to get me through this journey.

Battlefield 3: The multiplay you want and the singleplay you don’t

Now to be fair I would never think of a battlefield game as a singleplayer experience, but I was still disappointed by the lackluster campaign. You play as a marine grunt being interrogated by two old guys in an office in New York. The marine is explaining that there is a nuclear threat and the old white guys don’t believe him. All the while you are playing through flashbacks that are the standard “go shoot these guys” thing that is all over military FPS games. I only finished the story because I am reviewing it. I actually had to take breaks with multiplayer just to save me from the boredom.

Giblets and bits and bits and bits: Gears of War 3

I love this series. It’s all manimal. Everyone looks like they have a not-so-healthy ‘roid addiction and they can take bullets to the chest like champs. All the guns rip and tear, incuding the bayonets (which I’m sure you have at least heard about the chainsaw). The story is pretty manimal too as it’s about how this especially roid-raged squad takes on insect-monster-badasses who breach the planet’s surface to kill humanity. You play several of these roid monkeys through the campaign in an effort to stop them and their newly mutated cousins.

The world has crumbled under the weight of these newly mutated Locust (named the Lambent or Glowie). They have decimated the Locust underground and forced them onto the surface. The Gears (roid monkeys) were humanities defense against them and even they are a scattered mess now. You were just minding your own business, on a battleship at open sea, but then you got reinvolved in killing everything on your way to stopping the Lambent and finding Marcus’s (main character) father.

The story always felt pretty cool for an action game but the multiplay is the reason to get it. It is violent and fun. Versus has you and four others against a team of five opponents there are several different modes that are the standard offerings: Team Deathmatch, Warzone (one life each), CTL (CTF with a living flag), King of the hill and Wingman (which is four two man teams). The maps are well built with teamwork a cornerstone of gameplay.

Horde mode is back from Gears 2 and is better than ever. You still face wave after wave of enemies but now every tenth is a boss wave, which includes one of the bosses from the campaign. Don’t worry though, cause you get to use all sorts of traps and turrets to wade through the Locust Horde.

Beast mode is new to the series and a welcome addition as it lets you play as the locust in a reversed form of Horde mode. You get to choose which Locust to use from a wretch (kinda like a monkey dog) all the way up to a berserker (giant angry female Locust). You have a minute to kill all the gears and destroy all of their fortifications, but each one you destroy or kill yields you more time and money, which you use to buy in as another locust after you die.

The game gets a gold. Online this game is almost king to me. I prefer a lil realism tho.

Battlefield 3 Beta

It’s open and free so if you don’t have it, you are screwing up. If you like realistic shooters it is as close as you can get. Except for the glitches, but those will get fixed in time and none of them are all that gamebreaking.

If you are playing on the 360 look for Taco Grindr at the top of the scoreboard.

Edit::

The beta is now closed, but expect a review of the title from me after release. Also expect to see me at the top of the scoreboards.

Rusty Hearts: Something New

(click on the pics to see them full-size)

I’ve been looking forward to this game for a very long time. I signed up for the closed beta two months ago. I was excited by all the teaser pics they kept releasing, wondering just how they were going to pull off what looked like a hack-and-slash console game as a MMO.
And wow, it’s finally here! And pretty amazing!

[Guest Review] Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Review by: Rodan9

First of all, I would like to state that I consider myself an average gamer. I tend to get the top-title games, but not too much else. So I am not too familiar with the various gaming companies and their styles. Nor am I experienced with gaming reviews so bare with me. This is my take on Deus Ex.

I will have to admit I was hyped up about this game. From what I heard from co-workers who got it the day of release, it sounded like a bad ass game. Overall, it did not disappoint.
